Asteroid mining? Are we really this close?

Wealthy speculators are placing bold bets on asteroid mining

In another episode of "I hate the universe"...

"It's speculated that a relatively small, 1.6-km diameter asteroid with the right physical characteristics could contain more than $20 trillion worth of industrial and precious metals. For example, near-Earth asteroid 16 Psyche is believed to contain 1.7x1019 kg of nickel-iron, which would be enough to supply current world production requirements for several million years."

Well, there go my nickel mining shares...

The list of board members and investors of the Planetary Resources company is impressive and a true who's who of billionaires. This is really an excellent use of one's excessive wealth. We've already seen what Elon Musk achieved with his SpaceX program.
